Talk of Fuzzy Cognitive Maps, Gantt Charts and Mental Modelling might have you reaching rapidly for your project dictionary but behind the terminology lies some significant progress in the BeWater project over the recent months.

These and other elements of the project were presented and discussed at the BeWater Steering Committee meeting, which took place in Brussels from 4 – 6 February 2015.

Raising Awareness in Pedieos

AC pedieos 350In Pedieos, the Cyprus Institute participated in the "Through the Researcher's Eyes" event in Nicosia, on the 28th of November.

The team used the opportunity to disseminate the objectives of the BeWater project, stressing the importance of public participation, bringing the public and researchers together and explaining science in a comprehensive manner.

Stakeholder engagement, Water Management Option design and participative methodology were the hot topics for the BeWater General Meeting held in Nicosia, Cyprus, from 21-23 October 2014.

The main focus of the meeting was on the four Case Study River Basins(CSRBs), with feedback on the BeWater participatory approach and initial stakeholder engagement.

Cyrus stakeholderΠιο δίκαιη κατανομή του νερού μεταξύ των διαφορετικών χρηστών, καλύτερη εφαρμογή της περιβαλλοντικής νομοθεσίας, εκστρατείες ευαισθητοποίησης, καθαρισμός στις κοίτες και επέκταση των πάρκων κατά μήκος των ποταμών μας, θα μπορούσαν να βοηθήσουν την προσαρμογή της Κύπρου στην κλιματική αλλαγή. Αυτές ήταν μερικές από τις επιλογές που προτείνει μια ποικιλόμορφη ομάδα εμπλεκόμενων φορέων κατά τη διάρκεια του πρώτου εργαστηρίου για το πρόγραμμα BeWater στο Ινστιτούτο Κύπρου.

Οι έρευνες που διεξάγονται από το Ινστιτούτο Κύπρου δείχνουν ότι στο εγγύς μέλλον (2020-2050), η Κύπρος θα έχει να αντιμετωπίσει περισσότερα χρόνια ξηρασίας, πιο ακραία φαινόμενα βροχόπτωσης και περισσότερες ημέρες με θερμοκρασίες άνω των 35⁰C.

Brussels 1 250The first BeWater Steering Committee Meeting was held in Brussels on 24 April, attended by 19 project partners and a representative from the European Commission. Reflections on the first 6 months of the project and presentations on the BeWater Approach, Quality Assurance and Evaluation Methodologies led to useful discussions clarifying roles and responsibilities in the project and identifying important next steps.

Presentations and discussions around project communications highlighted the need for local language translations of news, posts and information for public consumption to facilitate dissemination of information and engagement of project stakeholders.
